12 DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR PARENTS

How much are you able to learn from your kid when you ask, "How was your day today?” Often times I hear a very short reply of, "good," and then the conversation hits a dead end. A desired, in-depth conversation does not always happen with our child and that's ok. Parents' attempts should not be considered as failures. So much depends on a child’s willingness to talk as well as time, place and circumstances of a talk. The way a parent asks a question is also significant. We get a one-sided talk when we ask questions that can be answered with a single word - 'yes', 'no', 'good' or ' bad'.
A better way is to ask questions that stimulate our child’s thinking.
Below are a sample of questions on the subject of "Spiritual Life". See if any of these questions can be a help to you next time you have dinner with your child so your shared time together can be more meaningful:

1. What is one thing God has taught you or shown you lately?

2. What is one verse that you have read or heard that has really been your favorite?

3. What is your favorite praise and worship song or Christian song lately and Why?

4. Tell me what you learned in church/youth group/Sunday School today/this week?

5. If you could be a Bible character who would you be?

6. What is one question you have had about Christianity or God lately that we as a family could study and find out more about?

7. Who is one person in your life right now that you could share Christ with?

8. What is one way we can encourage you this week in your Spiritual Life and walk with Christ?

9. If you could have dinner with Jesus, what is one question you would ask Him?

10. What is one thing you are excited about when it comes to heaven and eternity with God?

11. Of all the miracles that Jesus did, which one would you have wanted to be there for & why?

           12. If you could memorize a whole book of the Bible, which one would you want to know by heart?
