Pastoral Residency: Children’s Minister

Manly Memorial Baptist Church is a thriving, intergenerational congregation with a growing children’s ministry and a vision to bring people closer to one another and closer to Jesus. We are seeking a candidate with the following qualities to join our team in ministry:

-a growing faith in Jesus
-a love for children and their parents
-an ability to communicate one's needs in relationships and the work at hand.
-organization skills

Ministry Exploration:
This pastoral residency is not an internship. Rather it is a highly intentional 1 to 2 year program where those with ministry ambitions (pastor, associate pastor, para-church, etc.) can gain training, local church experience, and ministry leadership development. Residents are expected to participate for one to two years and maintain their seminary or divinity school work.

The Pastoral Resident will be required to lead our children’s ministry, but encouraged to explore other areas that interest them, e.g., pastoral care, preaching, college ministry, etc.

Manly Memorial Baptist Church is a collaborative and high trust work environment. The Children’s Minister will not be alone in executing ministry tasks and can expect help from fellow staff members, lay leaders, and parents of the church. On Sundays, children start in worship with parents. K-5th grade exit the sanctuary for “Children’s Church,” except for the first Sunday of each month, which is “Intergenerational Worship,” featuring a Children’s Moment.

Worship:
1. Create and lead a "Children's Moment" during worship once a month.
2. Teach Children's Church.
3. Work with Ministry Assistant to ensure that Children's Church and Nursery are fully staffed during the worship hour.
4. Work with Ministry Assistant to procure curriculum for Children's Church that reflects the theological values of the church.
*Worship attire for ministry staff should be considered “business casual.”

Sunday School:
1. Work with Ministry Assistant to ensure that Children's Sunday School is fully staffed with volunteers, communicating their roles and expectations.
2. Work with Ministry Assistant to procure curriculum for Children's Sunday School that reflects the theological values of the church.

Summer:
1. Take a group of children to an overnight Christian camp each summer.
*In the absence of summer courses, a pastoral resident could potentially secure additional summer employment.

Additionally:
1. Introduce oneself to visiting and new families at worship or other church events.
2. Meet with the pastor weekly for support and communication.
3. Meet with Children’s Committee (or all parents) quarterly for mutual ministry support.
4. Offer a report at our Quarterly Ministry (Business) Meetings.
5. Work with Ministry Assistant to purchase necessary children’s materials and supplies in accordance with the budget guidelines and submit budget needs for future programs.
6. Collaboratively lead 6 family outreach events a year. (e.g. Parent’s Night Out, VBS, or other ideas.)

Compensation:
$7,000 annually

Time Off Considerations:
The role is currently a "quarter time” position. The Children’s Minister is permitted one Sunday off each month if proper substitutes have been secured.
The Children’s Minister should be present for Back-to-School Sunday, Christmas Eve, a Sunday before or after summer camp, and Easter services, except in the case of an emergency.

Please email cover letter and resume to pastor@manlybaptist.com if interested.
